Abstract

This essay introduces some leading interpreters and translators of Schleiermacher's ethical writings to English readers. It places the new discussion of his ethics within the worldwide renewal of interest in his works, which is attested by the determination to translate all of his major writings into English during the next generation and by the creation of a new bilingual journal for research on Schleiermacher and nineteenth century thought.
