Abstract

This article contains an edition made using the 19 known manuscripts of the twelfth-century Latin poem Mathematicus by Bernardus Silvestris together with an English translation and brief introduction. The poem consists of 854 verses of elegiac couplets and concerns a young man who requests from the Senate and people of Rome permission to suicide because he has learned of a prophecy that he will kill his father
