In this book on Deuteronomy Vincent Senechal studies the function and the meaning of the Golden Calf episode for the people of Israel at the time it was written. He offers a good summary of the present state of biblical research on the Pentateuch and investigates the theology of this episode in Deuteronomy through categories such as sin, retribution and intercession. There is little doubt that this work will become a key book for any study of divine justice in the Bible. "
