Abstract

For graduate students and junior researchers alike, organising a science café may seem a simple and relatively harmless academic activity. However, organising such an event, especially when it aims to share complex and sophisticated thinking with the general public, can raise challenges from conception to completion. In this text, we share our reflections on the challenges and other lessons learned by the members of the organising team of a bioethics café funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, in the hope that our experience can be of use to others in organising similar events.
