Abstract

Human beings, modern and ancient alike, are ever attentive to origins; where we come from enables us to understand who we are, and to conceive of who we might become. Luce Irigaray’s most recent work, To Be Born, is concerned precisely with this question of beginnings. As she writes, “unveiling the mystery of our origin is probably the thing that most motivates our quests and plans”.
