Abstract

First denied by Aristotle, the respiration of insects was gradually confirmed and proven by later researchers. Details of insect respiration were greatly enhanced by the development of micromethods including the application of microscopes. Select topics of research on respiration in insects are presented with some indications of classificatory, anatomical, physiological and evolutionary aspects
