Abstract

[Notes on the “Natural Law of Gentes” in “De uno”]. The issue of the construction of a common legal world between nations lies for Vico within the general problem of the relationship between the fundamental principles and the ethical and political practice, between the universal form and its possible implementation in specific historical and political situations. This essay deals with the subject of the natural law of nations moving from the classical and modern sources of Vico, in order to show the shift realized by his philosophy from the being to the existence of “nations”, without giving up the need for “universal rights”.
