Abstract

It is reassuring to this reviewer to find that there is at least one other unregenerate liberal, both politically and religiously, extant in the world. This is not to say, however, that the outlook of Munk’s book is particularly optimistic. Indeed, the weight of his evidence points to the real uncertainty as to whether there will be an American Tricentennial. In fact, Munk’s diagnosis of threats both from the home front and from the global front leads one to doubt whether any human being will long remain extant. Of course, Munk’s avowed aim “is to awaken rather than frighten the American people”.
