Abstract

Maintaining a harmonious family is a joint duty of family members. Couples are a place to gain affection and emotional support. Every couple wants to have a harmonious and fulfilling family life. The widespread cases of spousal affairs that many husbands have committed cause the wives to worry about the loyalty and love of their spouses. A spouse who cheats is a marriage because he still has a great deal of love and empathy for his wife and children. Besides, marriage is caused by insufficient fulfillment of biological needs and the distance that separates the couple. The aim of this study is to look at the relationship between empathy and love in spouses who cheat. The study used a quantitative method with Pearson's correlation design. There were 12 respondents selected using purposive sampling methods based on the sample criteria of a husband having a long distance marriage and having had sexual intercourse. The instruments used in this study are the Triangular Of Love Scale (TLS) and the Empathy Scale. The result of this study was that there was no relationship between empathy and love in spouses who cheated (r = 0.530; p = 0.076).
