Abstract

Not a new attempt to solve the "Socratic problem," but a collection of passages from writers from antiquity to the present in which the meaning and value of Socrates' life and death are discussed. From this anthology it becomes evident that Socrates has been lauded and condemned for the greatest possible variety of reasons, a greater variety than most students of philosophy realize until they see such an extensive selection between two covers.—J.
