Euthanasia: The legalisation of the right of life - myth or reality

Abstract

Euthanasia is a Greek word that means easy death, but the controversy surrounding it is just the opposite. The legalisation of euthanasia is one of the most controversial legal and ethical discussions today. There is a never-ending battle between the right to die of a human being and the legal implications that, it is foreseeable to intervene in the right to live. Euthanasia is the intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for his or her alleged benefit. Dworkin in his book ‘Life’s Dominion’ has written that “Everyday, rational people all over the world plead to be allowed to die. Sometimes they plead for others to kill them. Some of them are dying already…. Some of them want to die because they are unwilling to live in the only way left open to them”. Should euthanasia be legalised in the United Kingdom?
