Abstract

ExcerptAfter World War II, Carl Schmitt suddenly disappeared from the public stage in the newly built German society. Although his public position in the Reich after his defamation by the SS in 1936 cannot be compared to his former status as a well-known professor of constitutional law and a member of the Prussian privy council, his presumed proximity to the Nazi Reich disqualified him completely from any further official position.
