In diesem philosophischen Werk beschäftigt sich der Autor Carl Hauptmann mit den Geheimnissen der menschlichen Gestalt. Er geht dabei der Frage nach, inwieweit die körperliche Erscheinung eines Menschen Rückschlüsse auf seine Persönlichkeit und sein Schicksal zulässt. Dabei schöpft er aus Erkenntnissen der Antike, Neurowissenschaften und Psychologie.
