Abstract

Mystery and Imagination is intended to bridge the dangerous gap between the professional theologian and the ordinary Christian, to meet some of the misapprehensions and criticisms of Christianity current today, and to give positive aid to those who are not afraid to think about their faith. It is theology for those who are disillusioned but not hopeless. Through a lively discussion of some of the main themes of Christian belief--the concept of man, faith, atonement, the incarnation, revelation in history, tragedy--Professor Hanson presents an account of the Christian faith which is constructive without being uncritical. In particular, his book will help those who are groping towards Christian belief, but who find unacceptable the form in which Christianity is conventionally presented. -Publisher.
