Abstract

This work attempts to offer greater understanding to scholars and students who have some understanding of, yet desire more meticulous insight into, Afrocentric thought and praxis, and to offer help to scholars and others who do not understand--or who misunderstand--Afrocentric thought and praxis. ;Utilizing Africalogical method, this dissertation examines the philosophical core of Afrocentric thought and praxis--work of Molefi Asante, Maulana Karenga, and Kariamu Welsh-Asante. Thirteen Major Principles are extracted. Antecedent work of Cesaire, Malcolm X, and Ayi Kwei Armah are assessed relative to the Major Principles. Assessment suggests their work is important, anticipatory, incipient Afrocentric work--pointing to the necessary and welcome emergence of codified systematic-sophisticated Afrocentric thought and praxis
