Abstract

This work by the author of A Mayan Life (La otra cara) is an introduction to the history of Mayan literature from the earliest times down to the present, within a sociocultural context. Deals with both oral & written literature, & contains excerpts from various works, including some which have never before appeared in print. Most are in bilingual (Spanish & Mayan) versions. This is the first history of Mayan literature to be written by a Mayan, who is a noted novelist & poet in his own right.
