Abstract

Starting from the analysis of the two works devoted by Foucault to Was ist Aufklärung?, this essay aims at showing the relevance of the critique of the modern subject and of the problem of death to the understanding of his last researches. The interpretation of Kant’s Aufklärung as philosophical ethos and the study of sexuality in ancient morals are both seen as parts of an attempt at retrieving the historical dimension of subjectivity
