Abstract

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:Editorial StatementScott Gelfand, CoeditorOnce per year The Pluralist publishes an issue devoted exclusively to values. This year’s issue contains articles on a variety of related topics, including the difference between strong and weak pluralism in classroom communities; curing ills facing today’s college students with the aid of Aquinas’s ethical theory; the Golden Rule and virtue ethics; advance directives and psychological accounts of identity; Judith Butler, the personal, the political and theological discourse; George Herbert Mead, social conceptions of self and moral reasoning; William James’s ideas about militarism applied to American foreign policy since 1945; and the philosophical roots of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, important moral ideal of a beloved community. We hope you will find this selection provocative and informative. [End Page v]Scott Gelfand, CoeditorOklahoma State UniversityCopyright © 2009 Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois...
