Abstract

This chapter analyses Soren Kierkegaard's views about formation of identity and critique of culture. It suggests that the Kierkegaardian notion of culture and formation has a broad range of meanings which include ideas about moral teaching, intellectual training, and existential self-relationship. The chapter also considers deconstructive novels of formation, and the context of Kierkegaard's concept of formation and culture based on his work Either/Or.
