The author discusses the most characteristic features and peculiarities of modern philosophy of history in the light of the transformations sustained by historical and philosophical thought from early 19th century to the present. She defines the basic principles of modern historical studies and the challenges faced by historians as a result of the dramatic changes in social relations, culture, and world outlook that took place in Western Europe and North America in the 20th century.
