Abstract

In 2004, the excavation in the north part of the Artemision on Thasos yielded a fragment of a decree passed in honour of the Thasian Stilbon between the 1st c. BC and the 1st c. AD. Stilbon had offered to finance the work of restoration and construction necessitated by the sanctuary of a goddess of the city. Rendered in a rather unconventional style, the text shows how the maintenance of religious facilities passed from the responsibility of the city to that of individual fortunes.
