Abstract

Though he is no stranger to philosophy, his character and philosophy in the English-speaking world mostly are, and it is this paper’s objective to show why that possibly is the case, why the biases, stereotypes, and bad faith interpretations of Jacques Derrida run amok, and in the process, perhaps offer a clearer and more faithful interpretation of the man and his work. The work that many either refuse to read and look at, in favor of uncharitable images and, at worst, lies about a complex individual with an equally complex, subtle, and reasonable philosophy. From Deconstruction to statements of his character, this is to clear the bad air and preposterous myths that surround Derrida.
