Abstract

"In an age of mass shootings, widespread terrorism, and violence within schools and in the home, it is clear that society is in an uproar. Individuals, nations, and the world are becoming more and more polarized as social strife escalates. The authors of Social Unrest argue that at the root of social unrest is the conflicting dualities of me/you and us/ them that blind us to our inherent connectedness. Dualities are an essential part of our material world. However, human dyads have a markedly different character than nature’s dualities where these contrasts are harmoniously integrated into a whole. The question then becomes: Why don’t humans function in a similar fashion? Why have we created conflicted polarizations of me/you and us/them?
