Abstract

This paper explores the relation between images and databases in a twofold way. The first part examines image databases as sources for image computational analysis, while the second part studies image databases as sources for image generation (notably through the generative artificial intelligence model Midjourney). Image analysis and image generation will be analyzed through the concept of enunciative praxis. Traditionally, enunciative praxis concerns cultural transformations over the long term (the relation between sedimentation and innovation); in our case it will be used notably to study the generation of new images through old, traditional ones.
