Abstract

Leibniz and the coils of time Abstract In this paper I compare some definitions that Leibniz gives of the notion of perfection with various models ˜ of a hypothetical and often mutually incompatible character ˜ which he proposes in order to represent the way that this perfection develops through time in created substances. Based on this comparison, I put forward some tentative ideas as to how these models would or would not function metaphysically, with regard to the constitution and internal progress of substances.
