Abstract

For decades, gross domestic product (GDP) has served as the dominant benchmark for measuring development. Yet, Gundimeda and Atkinson (2024) question whether GDP remains a suitable yardstick for capturing human progress in the complexities of the 21st century. Although GDP effectively records market-based economic activity, it fails to account for critical dimensions of sustainable well-being, including environmental health, social equity, and life satisfaction.
