secularism, liberalism, and relativism issue of relativism in ethics and politics by looking to a specific form of ethical and political conflict liberalism has been confronted by a form of politics, which we have taken to describing, without too much precision, as “identity” politics Tolerance and Blasphemy ‐ specific clash between some particular principle of secular liberalism and the commitments of some particular identity Classical liberalism has placed a very strong demand on the value of non – interference to account for its special character Muslim Identity and Internal Reasons ‐ How can secular liberalism cope with the phenomenon of identity politics without the resources of external reasons Liberal Pluralism ‐ lofty standards of classical liberalism as we find it in Mill and others, what it loses by way of principle it gains by way of pluralism Which pluralism one embraces can make all the difference to what liberal states will allow demand for reform of Muslim person
