Abstract

The Paradox that heals. Communication and Therapy in Paul Watzlawick This article provides an overview of the epistemology on which Paul Watzlawick builds its innovative approach to psychology and communication. In the first paragraph, the analysis will introduce the basic concepts of cybernetic and the role it plays within the author’s work. It will also explore the nuances of what Watzlawick defines as “pragmatic science”, a specific perspective on communication and human relations. In the second paragraph, the analysis will give an overview on pathologic forms of communication, focusing on the toxicity of the paradoxical structure. The third chapter will explore the therapeutic tools based on strategic language techniques, disclosing a new approach to the science of behavior based on non linear logic.
