Abstract
The Metaphysical Society of America announces a call for essay proposals for the 51st annual meeting to be held March 11–13, 2000 at Dickinson College in Carlyle, Pennsylvania. The Program Committee invites submissions of essay proposals on some aspect of the general theme, “Metaphysics and the Good,” to be considered for inclusion in the March 2000 program. Presentations at the meeting will occur in four half-day segments, all of them plenary sessions. A presentation usually runs 30 minutes followed by a parallel or responding essay, with ample time for discussion. There are no restrictions on the metaphysical approach utilized. Authors may work from any philosophical perspective, tradition, or method, speculative or historical. Essays that are systematic statements of an original position are encouraged, but also essays that are more preliminary or exploratory. The Program Committee is made up of Professor J. Melvin Woody, Professor Patricia Cook, and Professor Judith A. Jones. The president of MSA for 2000 is George Allan. Essay proposals for the contest should be no more than two pages in length: a description of the author’s general argument, method, assumptions, including the reasons for thinking the topic important. Please send all proposals to Professor Judith Jones, Department of Philosophy, Fordham University, Bronx NY 10458. Contact any member of the committee or the president if you have questions. An early indication of your intent to submit a proposal would be appreciated but will not be a factor in the choices made. The deadline for proposals is June 15, 1999. The deadline for submitting full drafts of the accepted essay proposals is October 1, 1999.
